What is a Vertical Shade Sail?

A vertical shade sail is an efficient solution for providing shade for commercial building with vertical opening facing the sun. Vertical shade sails typically have a faster turn-around time due to the fact that they are attached to the building rather than columns.

Vertical Shade Sails need a vertical opening with 3 sides to weld or bolt our connections to. Following the sail installation its simple to take down. To take it down release the tension in the turnbuckles and manually disconnect each sail connection from building connections. This allows access to opening the sail is enclosing.

Our Most Recent Vertical Shade Sail

We just completed this project in Tempe, Arizona. This project consisted of a replacement hip canopy top which we did in Commercial 95 shade cloth Desert Sand.

The original shade cloth started to rip so the customer opted to have it replaced before it became an issue.

The majority of the project was the installation of a custom vertical shade sail on the easterly side of the building.

This shade panel did replace a design that had failed a few years back which was installed with non-welded eyelets which had bent and become weak eventually breaking and ripping the shade panel according to the customer.

We came in with a tensile solution for the customer by welding 5 plasma cut tabs to existing structure. After we tensioned a custom-made vertical shade sail with grommets on the bottom edge for better shade. The bottom lace on portion of the sail laces onto a cable tensioned between the tilt concrete wall and the supporting column of the Awning of the building.

Commercial 95 and Tenara thread were used to sew this project.
